2023 Board candidate

Bin YU

Deputy Chief Economist, CTG

As Deputy Chief Economist of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) and an active member of the hydropower community, it is my great pleasure to submit my candidacy for the IHA board.

Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to the energy sectors, with a particular focus on hydropower and international cooperation. During my tenure at China’s Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power and Ministry of National Energy from 1987 to 1996, I was responsible for international loans for several hydropower projects. From 1996 to 2012, I joined in CTG and was deeply involved in the development, investment, construction and specially in managing the whole tendering work for the Three Gorges Project. From 2012 to 2022, I successively served as Deputy Mayor of Yibin City, Deputy Director General of Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce, and foreign-related business was one of my major administration responsibilities.

Sustainable hydropower is the future of hydropower. CTG’s development story over the past decades is a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability and a green future, which is highly consistent with the San Jose Declaration. Going forward, CTG will continue to align with international sustainability practices to share the benefits of growth.

Now we are at a time when the need of a clean and sustainable energy transition has become so imperative. As a prominent voice and face of the hydropower sector, IHA can play an instrumental role in the global energy landscape. I am delighted at the prospect of sharing my expertise with the esteemed members of the IHA board.
