Associate Professor, University of South Australia
A/Prof John Pisaniello is an associate research professor and leader of the Sustainable Engineering, Accounting and Law Group in the UniSA Business and Law School at the University of South Australia. John is also a qualified engineer and lawyer with over 20 years water and dams management experience developed from a transdisciplinary PhD, two prestigious Australian Research Council Discovery Projects as well as an Australian Post-Doctoral Fellowship, numerous research contracts for local, national and international governments and significant World Bank dam safety consulting assignments. Interweaving both the policy understanding of a lawyer and the inventive skills of an engineer, John has been able to apply comparative methods and develop innovative cost-effective tools to help both dam owners/managers and policy makers better review and understand inter-related water storage, dam safety, flood and drought issues at the individual, catchment and regional levels. This has enabled the design of both policy and practice solutions to improve productivity, equity and safety in Australia and internationally, including developing country contexts. Since 1995 John has authored over 100 publications, including journal and conference papers and industry reports, many in leading international refereed water journals such as Water Resources Research, Journal of Hydrology, Hydrology Research and Agricultural Water Management.
