Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ugandan Government
Irene Nafuna Muloni is the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development in the Ugandan Government and the Woman Member of Parliament for Bulambuli District.
She graduated with an Honors degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, Kampala, in 1986 and holds an MBA degree from Capella University, Minnesota, USA (2004). She is a Corporate Member of the Ugandan Institution of Professional Engineers, a Certified Public-Private Partnership Specialist, and a Professional Balanced Scorecard Practitioner.
Since graduation, Irene has been gainfully employed in leadership and management responsibilities in the energy sector for the last 23 years and the telecommunications for five years; and she also served on a voluntary basis in both government and non-governmental organisations. In the energy sector, she served as Managing Director, Manager Customer Service, Manager Information Technology, Senior Protection Engineer, Senior Communications Engineer, and Communications Engineer for the Government Electricity Utility.
On a part-time basis, she serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Finance Trust Bank, the first Women’s Bank in Uganda. She is an advocate for gender equality, women’s empowerment and utilisation of science and technology for sustainable development.
