Communications Manager

  • Salary: £45k-55k (depending on experience) plus benefits

We are recruiting a senior communications specialist who will lead communications for an ambitious European innovation project about the changing role of hydropower in building a low-carbon and climate resilient energy system.

We are the International Hydropower Association, based in London, a not-for-profit organisation serving a worldwide network of members. Our objective is to build and share knowledge on hydropower’s role in clean energy systems, responsible freshwater management and climate change solutions. We work in partnership with industry, researchers, governments, NGOs and financial institutions.

The successful candidate will take charge of communications for a major EU-funded project to demonstrate new hydropower technologies which provide flexibility to support the greater use of other renewables, such as wind and solar power. S/he will play the leading role in delivering strategic communications for the project, working with 18 partners based across Europe.

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced writer and editor who will deliver a suite of communications products and programme of events and webinars. S/he will transform technical material into compelling and accessible content for a variety of audiences, including policy-makers, the public, academia and industry. This is a new position in our communications team, working closely with a Multimedia Manager/Digital Designer.

Key requirements

  • At least three years’ experience in a senior communications position
  • Developing and delivering complex communications projects
  • Working as an editor or senior writer on technical topics
  • Ideally, experience working in scientific, energy and technology sectors
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills
  • Managing expenditure, donor reporting and contractual compliance
  • Commissioning and managing agencies and suppliers
  • Coordinating events, including conferences or webinars
  • Ability to work in an international, multicultural environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
  • Willingness to travel internationally on occasion
