Transparency International's mission is to stop corruption and promote transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels and across all sectors of society. The organisation's core values are: transparency, accountability, integrity, solidarity, courage, justice and democracy. From villages in India to the corridors of power in Brussels, TI gives voice to the victims and witnesses of corruption. As a global movement with one vision, TI wants a world free of corruption.

In addition to an international secretariat in Berlin, Transparency International consists of more than 100 chapters – locally established, independent organisations – that fight corruption in their respective countries.

TI works together with governments, business and citizens to stop the abuse of power, bribery and secret deals; from small bribes to large-scale looting, corruption differs from country to country. As chapters are staffed with local experts they are ideally placed to determine the priorities and approaches best suited to tackling corruption in their countries. This work ranges from visiting rural communities to provide free legal support to advising their government on policy reform.

Transparency International participated in the multi-stakeholder process that created the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol in its initial rollout.
