Gilgel Gibe III, Ethiopia (12 May)

Ethiopian Electric Corporation (EEP) is providing an exclusive opportunity for registered participants of the congress to visit Gilgel Gibe III, currently the largest hydroelectric project in Ethiopia, with an installed capacity of 1,870 MW.

Inaugurated in December 2016, Gibe III virtually doubles the country’s electric capacity. It is a milestone achievement as part of Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan that aims to bring the country’s total output to 40,000 MW by 2035. 

Itinerary

6.30 - meet at Bole Airport

7.00 - departure from Bole Airport

8.10 - arrival at Gibe III Airstrip and transfer by car/bus to camps

8.50 - arrival at powerhouse

9.15-10.45 - visit powerhouse

10.45-11.00 - travel to RCC Dam

11.00-12.00 - visit RCC Dam

12.00-12.30 - travel to project canteen

12.30-14.00 - lunch at Highland Camp

14.00-14.40 - travel to Gibe III Airstrip

14.50-16.00 - flight from Gibe III Airstrip to Bole Airport

16.00 - end of programme
