Hailemariam DESALEGN

Prime Minister of Ethiopia

Hailemariam Desalegn has been the prime minister of Ethiopia since 2012. He formerly served as the country's deputy prime minister and foreign minister between 2010 and 2012. 

Mr Desalegn has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Addis Ababa University, which he obtained in 1988. He subsequently worked as a graduate assistant in Arba Minch University, and also obtained a masters degree in sanitation engineering from the Tampere University of Technology in Finland.

Since returning to Ethiopia, he has served in a number of academic and administrative positions, including the dean of the Water Technology Institute for over a decade.
