Independent Contractor

Joerg Hartmann used to lead WWF's water security work, both at the global policy level and through field support for WWF's priority river basin programmes. Before WWF he worked for Germany's development bank KfW, managing water supply and sanitation, water resource management, and other natural resource management programs in Eastern Europe and Latin America, and leading policy work on conservation finance and payments for environmental services. From 2004 to 2007, he ran the Tanzania office of the bank and chaired the water donors group in that country, which went through a major harmonization effort and pooled investment resources to reach the MDGs on water. He has a Ph.D. in environmental and development economics.
