Mattia Celio, hydrogeologist by training, currently works as program manager at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), economic cooperation and development division. In this position, he is in charge of infrastructure financing projects in Ghana, Tanzania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, addressing the energy as well as urban water supply sectors.
He is also responsible for Swiss contributions to the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol and to the Africa Transport Policy Program.
Before joining SECO, between 2004 and 2007 Mattia worked at the International Water Management Institute in Hyderabad (IWMI), India, as associate expert, where he researched the widespread phenomenon of water reallocation from agriculture to urban areas. In 2008, he moved to New Delhi where he took up the position of science counsellor at the Embassy of Switzerland in India.
Mattia holds a PhD in water management from the Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC), Loughborough University (UK), and a master degree in hydrogeology from the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
