The Hydropower Sustainability Environmental, Social and Governance Gap Analysis Tool (ESG Tool) enables project proponents to identify and address gaps against international good practice
The ESG Tool is based on the framework of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol, assessing projects according to environmental, social and governance criteria.
Launched on 11 July 2018, the tool is divided into 12 sections which are compatible with IFC Environmental and Social Performance Standards and the World Bank’s new Environmental and Social Framework.
The tool was developed by the International Hydropower Association (IHA) between February 2017 and June 2018 under the mandate of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Council, with the support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
Notice: Only assessors formally accredited by the Management Entity of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol may make use of the ESG Tool for commercial purposes. Any use of the tool that does not comply with the afore-mentioned condition constitutes a breach of the Protocol terms and conditions and will entail legal proceedings.
