Stephen Karingi

Director of the Capacity Development Division, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)  

Stephen Karingi is currently director of the Capacity Development Division at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). He joined the United Nations in April 2004. Before joining the United Nations, he worked as a senior analyst and head of the Macroeconomics Division at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) in Nairobi for five years. He received his BSc in agricultural economics from Egerton University, Kenya in 1990. He graduated with a masters in economics in 1995 and a PhD in 1999 from the Faculty of Economics, Business and Law of the University of New England, Australia, after winning a John Crawford Merit Scholarship. Prior to joining KIPPRA he was a lecturer of economics at Egerton University and a researcher with the University of New England and Griffiths University in Australia.

Stephen Karingi’s previous role at UNECA was as director of the Regional Integration, Infrastructure and Trade Division.
