Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company

Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company Limited (LHPC) is the first independent power producer in Zambia. LHPC operates two hydropower plants, Lunsemfwa and Mulungushi, in Central District in Zambia with a total installed capacity of 56 MW. LHPC is committed to contribute to improving Zambia’s and the regions power deficit via renewable power production.

LHPC has strategic plans to increase the installed capacity with a combination of new investments and upgrades at existing power plants and optimising via solar expansion at our sites and construct the large Muchinga project downstream of Lunsemfwa which has a potential up to 1,000 MW.

LHPC is a full member of the Sothern Africa Power Pool and parts of the production is sold on this exchange. The remaining part of electricity is sold on long term PPAs. We are connected to the national and regional grid through 3 main transmission lines that we own.

LHPC is a subsidiary of Agua Imara (51 %), a Norfund company and Wanda Gorge Investments (49 %), a Zambian entity.
