The World Hydropower Outlook, a flagship annual publication by IHA, tracks and directs the progress of hydropower development globally against net zero pathways. Drawing upon exclusive new development insights from IHA’s global database, it features in-depth analysis of hydropower’s growth trajectory, highlighting policy and finances challenges as well as examples of good progress.
The 2024 edition will focus on “more, better, faster”: we need more hydropower projects to come forward, but they must be delivered to the highest possible standards of sustainability, and the permitting process must become more efficient. The publication will shine a light on the most significant projects not yet in operation to assess whether the current development pipeline supports our global climate ambitions. Broadening the picture, it will also incorporate special features and case studies to provide vital insight on the most crucial topics affecting hydropower development today.
The Global Launch of the 2024 World Hydropower Outlook was hosted on Wednesday, 12 June in London, UK in partnership between the Commonwealth Secretariat, IHA, and the British Hydropower Association (BHA). The event was attended by 50+ senior representatives of government, the diplomatic community, the finance community, the energy sector, think tanks and media. It included a presentation of the publication’s key findings and recommendations, and a high-level panel discussion.
The Global Launch marked the beginning of a worldwide roadshow of regional events, bringing together stakeholders from the diplomatic community, government, energy companies including consultants, the financial community and think tanks to discuss the findings in each region.
Stay tuned as the IHA will be updating this space with information about the upcoming regional events and webinars.
