About IHA

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is the global voice of sustainable hydropower. It is a non-profit membership organisation representing well over 100 members from every continent in the world.

Sustainable hydropower is a clean, green, secure, flexible, modern, and affordable solution for the energy transition. We believe that the world will need to at least double hydropower capacity in the next thirty years to support the massive increases in solar and wind power.

As an association, we believe that hydropower projects should be developed and operated responsibly and sustainably. Our members subscribe to the bold statement that going forward the only acceptable hydropower is sustainable hydropower.

Our mission

IHA's mission is to advance sustainable hydropower by building and sharing knowledge on its role in secure and reliable energy systems, responsible water management and climate change solutions.

We seek to deliver on our mission through advocacy, research and policy initiatives and championing sustainable good practices.

Our members share a common purpose: to build a world where the world’s energy and water needs are supported by sustainable hydropower.

Our members

We represent organisations committed to the responsible and sustainable development and operation of hydropower. Operating in over 120 countries, our members include leading hydropower owners and operators, developers, designers, suppliers and consultants.

Around a third (450 GW) of global installed hydropower capacity is directly managed and operated by our membership.

Our values

IHA provides a platform for a community of leading companies and other organisations committed to deliver sustainable hydropower.

This is a community built around a common set of values and principles. Read our values.

Our team
