Communications

Overview

Through IHA's initiatives to supercharge communications and advocacy efforts, an increasingly confident sector is presenting a united voice and coherent messages across the world.

Our main vehicles for promoting the sector and its support to driving next zero are our ‘We Can #WithHydropower’ campaign encompassing Global Hydropower Day, IHA social media channels with a focus on LinkedIn and regular contributions to industry, regional and global media coverage of the renewable energy sector and the race to net zero. We work closely with our membership to support local and regional stories relevant to their local markets alongside national associations.

Global Hydropower Day October 11

On #GlobalHydropowerDay, IHA brings together organisations and individuals to shine a light on how hydropower has improved lives and brought benefits to communities across the world. We invite you to join the celebration by sharing your stories and spreading the word.

Frankie

Sustainable hydropower's friendly, reliable superhero was introduced as a mascot for the hydropower sector during Global Hydropower Day 2024. Frankie is a robotic friend formed out of various elements that make up a hydropower facility including the Francis Turbine and a hydrostatic head inspired by the Kaplan Turbine. He is a great vehicle for engagement and has rubbed shoulders with Presidents and former prime ministers. He acts as an engaging, supportive character who can translate complicated information about hydropower into interesting facts.

Communications Advocacy Taskforce

Our members work together through the IHA's Communications Advocacy Taskforce, bringing together communications and engagement representatives from across the hydropower sector to collaborate on cross-sector campaign work.
