2023 Board elections

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is governed by a Board composed of international experts and stakeholders who bring high-level experience and multiple perspectives of hydropower.

The 2023 Board elections will decide the hydropower sector representatives who will shape and direct IHA’s work over the next two years. Candidates from across the world are standing to join the Board.

Nomination

The nominations process concluded on 8 May and the candidates are available here. Voting will start on 26 June and will close on 14 August. Instructions will be submitted to IHA's Primary Representatives through a Membership Circular. Eligibility for membership of the Board is governed by IHA's Rules and Byelaws.

Any employee of an IHA corporate member or any individual IHA member can stand to be a Board member.

Once elected, candidates must confirm that sufficient time and resources are available to meet the shared responsibilities of the Board, including a commitment to attend the majority of its meetings.

Board member duties

Elected Board members are expected to fulfil the following responsibilities and duties:

• Promote the success of the Association

• Act in accordance with IHA’s constitution and byelaws

• Exercise independent judgement

• Exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence

• Avoid conflicts of interest

• Not accept benefits from third parties

• Declare interest in current or proposed transactions or arrangements

• Some Board members may be required to act as directors and/or members of the subsidiary legal entities.

Here is a breakdown of what countries comprise the regions that candidates can stand to represent:

Africa, including all members of the African Union, and Morocco

America, North and Central, including Belize, Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean nations, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador and the United States of America

America, South, comprising Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela

Asia, South and Central, including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Yemen

Europe, including, the members of the European Economic Area and Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, North Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, San Marino, Serbia and Montenegro, Switzerland and Ukraine.
