Accounts Assistant

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is a non-profit international membership organisation, whose mission is to deliver renewable energy systems, freshwater management, and climate change solutions by advancing sustainable hydropower.

Our 100+ members include developers, operators and manufacturers worldwide and our partners include research institutions, non-governmental organisations, governments, financial institutions and development agencies. The IHA Board comprises of influential industry representatives, a former head of government and a leading former United Nations diplomat.

The role

We are recruiting a detail-oriented and organised individual to join our team as an Accounts Assistant. You’ll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day finance and administrative operations. Reporting to the Senior Finance and Operations Manager you’ll also work closely with internal teams and international stakeholders.

The role also requires supporting the day-to-day financial tasks for the Global Solar Council (GSC) a member of the Global Renewables Alliances (GRA) of which, IHA is a member. There is also scope that the role may also include financial responsibility for another GRA member.

This is a great opportunity to grow your finance career and gain exposure to international markets. Currently the role is part time but over time this may become a full-time role with additional responsibilities.

Key tasks:

  • Accurately code and process invoices in a timely manner ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Input financial data into the accounting system with a high level of accuracy.
  • Update and maintain Purchase and Sales ledgers.
  • Review and process employee expense claims verifying adherence to company policies.
  • Raise invoices and manage debtor accounts. Follow up on outstanding payments and resolve any payment discrepancies.
  • Reconcile bank statements and control accounts identifying and rectifying any discrepancies.
  • Communicate effectively with external parties to resolve financial queries or discrepancies.
  • Prepare and set up payment runs on the bank account.
  • Assist with monthly management accounts process.
  • Support the year-end audit process.
  • Manage the shared finance inboxes and provide general administrative support as needed to Senior Finance and Operations Manager.
  • Assist in maintaining a well-organised and efficient office environment.
  • Deal with ad hoc requests as required by Senior Finance and Operations Manager or wider management team.

Essential skills and attributes

  • Proven experience in a comparable role.
  • Solid understanding of basic financial principles – studying towards or completed AAT qualification or similar an advantage.
  • Previous experience with accounting software. Knowledge of Xero an advantage.
  • Strong data entry skills and good attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and a proactive approach to managing various financial tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office products, especially a proficiency in Excel (formulas and pivot tables).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Contract: Permanent, part-time: 3 days a week/ 22.5hrs (flexible)

Location: Canary Wharf, London / hybrid (Tuesday and Thursday in office)

Remuneration: £28,900 - £31,200 pro-rata, per annum based on experience
