Alloy Bearings
Alloy Bearings is a specialist white metal (babbitt) bearing refurbishment and manufacturing company founded in 1953 and headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand, with operations supporting customers across New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, and other international markets. We manufacture, supply and refurbish white-metal (Babbitt) hydrodynamic turbine bearings, tilting-pad bearings, guide bearings, thrust bearings, and sealing systems for critical rotating equipment in the hydropower, power generation, LNG, mining, and heavy industrial sectors.
We are joining the International Hydropower Association (IHA) at a time when the global hydropower industry is increasingly focused on asset life extension, reliability, and sustainable operation. With many hydro assets operating beyond their original design life, operators require trusted technical partners who can deliver proven refurbishment and manufacturing solutions. IHA membership allows us to collaborate with OEM’s, industry leaders, share practical experience, and contribute to the development of best practice across the sector.
A recent project we are particularly proud of involved the refurbishment and life-extension of large turbine, guide, and thrust bearings for a major Australasian hydro operator during a critical Class 4 outage. By restoring the bearings to original OEM dimensional and metallurgical specifications, we helped extend operational life by several decades, reduce unplanned outage risk, and avoid the significant environmental and financial cost of full replacement.
Sustainability is central to our approach. Our refurbishment and re-manufacturing processes significantly reduce raw material use, energy consumption, and carbon emissions compared with new manufacture. We invest in advanced casting, machining, inspection, and quality-control systems to maximise bearing reliability and efficiency, supporting improved turbine performance and reduced losses. We also prioritise responsible sourcing, waste minimisation, and continuous improvement in our manufacturing operations.
Alloy Bearings combines deep technical expertise with a strong customer-focused culture. We work closely with asset owners, OEMs, and service partners to deliver transparent, compliant, and high-integrity solutions for critical hydropower assets. Through our participation in IHA, we look forward to contributing to a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable global hydropower sector.
