DENNIS BARNES

With over three decades of experience in the energy sector, spanning renewables and retail, Dennis brings a wealth of strategic expertise and a proven capability of delivering strong performance across large, complex energy businesses. Dennis was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Snowy Hydro in February 2023. In this role, he leads one of Australia’s largest integrated energy companies, including its flagship retail brand Red Energy. Prior to this, Dennis was CEO of ASX/NZX-listed Contact Energy, guiding the company through a period of significant transformation, including its separation from Australian majority shareholder Origin Energy, and the delivery of a major investment program across renewable generation and enterprise-wide systems. Earlier in his career, Dennis held a number of senior executive roles at Origin Energy including General Manager, Energy Risk Management and General Manager, Generation Operations. He is a director of the Australian Energy Council and previously served as a non-executive director of Tilt Renewables and Mercury NZ.
