Engr. Lamu Audu has 25+ years’ experience of hydropower industries within West Africa and beyond. Since 2013, he has led MESL’s transformation from a social utility-focused venture to a business venture and doubled the combined capacity at MESL’s two plants (460MW to 922MW), contributing about 20% of energy to the National Grid.

Following its transformation to a profit-making business, the company now seeks to make strategic investments in renewable energy projects within Africa, as well as other value chain ventures within the power sector.

MESL is recognised by IHA and the World Bank as a case study on best practices in O&M of Hydropower Plants and has facilitated relationships with West-African power utilities.

Engr. Audu is a passionate champion of West Africa’s efforts to align with the international good practices in hydropower operations. He therefore seeks to bring a fresh African perspective to IHA’s mandate, drive sustainable growth and development for Africa’s hydropower, and promote more synergy with the rest of the world.
