our mission

Good practice

We champion sustainable good practices to strengthen the sector's performance

Strengthening hydropower's performance

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) has played a leading role in improving understanding about good and best practices in hydropower development and operations.

We are the publisher of the Hydropower Sustainability Tools, a set of guidelines and tools for assessing project performance against environmental, social and governance performance criteria.

These internationally recognised tools are aligned with World Bank and IFC performance standards, and so help project proponents to understand and achieve good and best practice in hydropower development.

Our training and capacity building courses are geared towards companies that seek to develop or report on projects which meet good and best practice.

Shape the future

The World Hydropower Congress will bring together leading decision-makers, innovators and experts from industry, government, finance, civil society and academia to decide priorities for the sector.
