Please introduce yourself and tell us about your role

I am both the Executive General Manager for Major Projects and Entura at Hydro Tasmania and the Vice Chair of the Board of the International Hydropower Association.

At Hydro Tasmania, I lead 2 business areas: one that plans to deliver major hydropower construction projects in Tasmania, and one that is our consultancy hub, Entura, where our people design and manage power and water solutions with clients across Australia and the Indo-Pacific region.

What challenge in the hydropower sector is your organisation working to address?

Hydro Tasmania, like many hydropower asset owners around the world, faces a convergence of issues to address. This includes continuing to provide reliable, dispatchable energy from existing infrastructure while upgrading it to leverage the latest technology for increased capacity and efficiency.

We are also investigating pumped hydro energy storage projects in our state to help balance intermittent renewable generation and strengthen energy security for Tasmania and the National Electricity Market.

Is there a recent milestone or achievement from your organisation that you would like to highlight?

Hydro Tasmania reached a significant milestone in our Tarraleah Redevelopment Project, a key part of modernising to meet future renewable energy needs. In February 2026, we launched the first phase of the construction tender process, bringing us closer to the financial investment decision and the anticipated replacement and upgrade of a system that has served us well for over 80 years. This milestone represents years of careful planning and preliminary investment and collaboration with local industry and stakeholders.

We also celebrated 50 years since the completion of Gordon Dam – Tasmania’s most iconic dam. At 140m high, this double-curved design wall dam involved thousands of workers to become an essential part of our energy portfolio. Today, the Gordon Power Station generates around 13% of Tasmania’s electricity needs every year.

What are you most proud of at the moment?

This will come as no surprise, but I am most proud of my team. Across both business units, major project and Entura, I am constantly impressed by their innovative thinking and desire to create an enduring legacy. For an industry with assets that can be decades old, our discipline is incredibly fast-paced and dynamic. Solutions are rarely out of the box, so our people need to be creative thinkers, collaborators and problem-solvers.
