IHA takes the helm of the Women in Hydropower Mentorship Program

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is proud to announce that it is incorporating the Women in Hydropower Mentorship Program (WHMP) under its organisation. This is a significant step forward in fostering a more inclusive and equitable hydropower sector.

With women representing only approximately 25% of the hydropower workforce, it is fundamental to promote, support and empower women in the industry and to encourage more to join and stay.

The WHMP was started in 2017 by Nora Rosemore and a small group of women in the US who felt there was a need to provide a platform for women in hydropower to connect, grow professionally and share experiences in a supportive environment. The program is run by volunteers and has grown to be a global initiative providing structured mentorship to approximately 200 participants per year.

By bringing the WHMP under IHA's umbrella, the program will benefit from IHA's international reach, dedicated staff resources and ensure its longevity. This includes exploring new tools to better match mentors and mentees, connecting women across the IHA membership and beyond, and promoting the initiative at global events. While the leading organisation has changed, the program’s objectives remain to foster a positive and growing network for women in hydropower.

IHA would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Kleinschmidt for their years of dedicated support in building the WHMP into the thriving program it is today - one that now serves women in more than 40 countries across the globe.

Applications for the 2026/27 cohort are now open from 1 June to 15 August. Whether you are looking to share your experience as a mentor or seeking guidance as a mentee, we invite you to apply and become part of this growing global network.
