IHA publishes 2025/26 Annual Report following year of strong momentum

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) has publish edits 2025/26 Annual Report, entitled Mobilising for energy security in a changing world, outlining the organisation’s work, achievements and impact over the past year.

The report provides an overview of IHA’s activities across advocacy, research, sustainability and member engagement, highlighting how the association has supported the global hydropower sector during a period of rapid change in the energy landscape.

Throughout 2025, IHA strengthened its role as a convenor and advocate for sustainable hydropower. This included hosting the InternationalForum on Pumped Storage in Paris, expanding the Global Alliance for PumpedStorage (GAPS), and engaging with policymakers and stakeholders across majormarkets worldwide.

IHA’s knowledge and advocacy work remained a key focus, with a record year of coverage for the 2025 World Hydropower Outlook. Theflagship annual publication provided data and insights to guide policy decisions and shape hydropower’s role in renewables energy systems, with thenext edition coming in June 2026.

The report also highlights progress in sustainabilitythrough collaboration with partners at the Hydropower Sustainability Alliance, which manages the HydropowerSustainability Standard (HSS). Certified projects under the HSS now span every major continent, alongside continued efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability across the sector.

Alongside a review of the year, the publication sets outIHA’s priorities for 2026 and beyond, centred on pumped storage, modernisation and sustainability, as the momentum builds towards the 2027 World HydropowerCongress in Sydney.

The report also covers developments in IHA’s membership community, governance and finances, reflecting a year of growth and increased engagement across the association’s global network.
