SMEC India | Celebrating Hydropower’s Wider Impact

Hydropower is about more than electricity. It can support water security, climate resilience and the communities that depend on these resources.

In this celebratory message, Prashant and Amit from SMEC India reflect on hydropower’s role in India’s clean energy ambitions. As the country expands wind and solar, hydropower and pumped storage can help provide the grid stability and flexibility needed to support the energy transition.

By combining international experience with local engineering expertise, SMEC is contributing to major dam and hydropower developments in India, with a focus on delivering lasting value for local communities.

With hydropower, we can keep the world energy secure.

This Global Hydropower Day, we’re celebrating the people behind hydropower and the work they do every day to keep the world’s energy secure.
