Kara Stariha, Resident Tunnel Engineer with SMEC, is working on a pumped hydropower storage project in the Philippines.

For Kara, one of the most fascinating parts of engineering is seeing how everything connects. Geology, tunnelling, roads, hydrology and dams all come together to build something on a huge scale, often in remote locations.

From the people on the ground to the many disciplines working together, hydropower is a team effort to help positively benefit communities.
