In collaboration with ESMAP, a World Bank initiative with over 20 partners, the next webinar in the series will explore how hydropower modernization can extend asset life, reduce costs, and strengthen power system resilience across diverse contexts.

Drawing on real-world examples from global modernization projects, the session examines the technical, financial, and operational choices that determine whether aging hydropower assets become liabilities or long-term contributors to clean, flexible energy systems — from equipment upgrades through digitalization.

Participants will gain practical insights into four interconnected areas: optimizing existing infrastructure through turbine, generator, and control upgrades that increase capacity and generation; and leveraging digitalization and battery hybridization to deliver greater flexibility, reliability, and system-wide value.
